In Spring 2022, as I was walking by Willliam and Mary's iconic Crim Dell pond, I wondered if there were any fish in there. Turns out, there are.
I've caught 59 fish that weigh a total of 43.55 pounds from 17 successful fishing trips to the Crim Dell.
The only fish species I've caught were bluegills and bass. I happened to catch four times as many bass as bluegills.
I averaged 3.47 fish per trip. The most fish I've caught in one day was 9 and I have caught only 1 fish on five different occasions.
I averaged 2.56 pounds of fish per trip. On my first time to the Crim Dell, I caught 7.53 pounds worth of fish, but I've seen darker days, like the time I only caught 0.2 pounds of fish.
The biggest fish I've caught in the Crim Dell weighed 1.7 pounds while the smallest one weighed 0.15 pounds.
For me, a small fish is 0-0.6 pounds, a medium fish is 0.6-1.2 pounds, and a large fish is 1.2-3 pounds. Anything else is huge. The Crim Dell contains mostly small and medium sized fish.
Weather also plays a large role in how successful you will be at the Crim Dell. The fishing is overwhelmingly better on sunny days.
Similarly, the time of day is also crucial. I caught much more fish during the afternoon than in the morning or evening.
I learned a lot from the 17 fishing trips to the Crim Dell in the Spring. I would recommend
going on a sunny afternoon if you want to catch 3 medium sized bass.
Of course, even with all these statistics, there are no guarnatees in fishing. But...
A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.
